18.5 Million Attend World's Top 20 Waterparks In 2007

Los Angeles, CA -- Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and Economics Research Associates reported that the top 20 waterparks worldwide had an increase in attendance in 2007. Attendance at the top waterparks increased six percent to an estimated total of 18.5 million visitors.

Walt Disney World waterparks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach topped the list with 2.08 million and 1.91 million visitors respectively. Nearby Wet 'n Wild Orlando ranked #3 with an estimated attendance of 1.37 million. Schlitterbahn New Branunfels was #4 with 865,000 and Water Country USA in Williamsburg rounded out the top five with 773,000.

Highland Hills Water World, Dollywood's Splash Country and Water Country USA all had the largest increases in attendance over the previous year.

According to TEA, attendance at Water World was up 26 percent due to excellent weather, successful marketing and a major new attraction. The Denver based waterpark is the largest in the US.

Good weather also helped Water Country USA in Williamsburg increase their attendance by 10.9 percent.

In Tennessee, Dollywood's Splash Country waterpark added The Cascades attraction and attendance their increased 19.8 percent.

Overall, 2007 turned out to be a good year for waterpark operators in the United States and abroad.
