One of two waterparks at the Walt Disney World Resort, Typhoon Lagoon is themed after a typhoon that wreaked havoc upon the pristine tropical paradise. Left behind are ships, fishing gear and surfboards that are strewn about from when the storm hit. The centerpiece of Typhoon Lagoon is "Miss Tilly", a shrimp boat stranded upon a mountain called "Mount Mayday" that erupts with a five-story geyser ever half-hour. Typhoon Lagoon's "Lagoona Gator" character is related to "Ice Gator" from Disney's Blizzard Beach waterpark. Typhoon Lagoon is a 61-acre waterpark that has a large collection of water slides, Florida's first water roller coasters, plus Shark Reef, a 362,000 gallon salt-water coral reef where guests can snorkel amid colorful fish, live sharks and coral. The park is also home to the world's largest wave pool with 2.75 million gallons of water spread across two and one-half acres.
